Each member of the Act B Alliance is commited to collaboratively design and develop the Open Traceability Protocol (OTP).
Each member of the Act B Alliance has agreed to the following working principles to collaborate.
Members are dedicated to demonstrating the commercial viability and advantages of interoperable data systems for their supplychains and to promote consumer, stakeholder and policy-maker awareness of the benefits and potential improvements that can come from data transferability and traceability.
In the spirit of collaboration all members agree to the:
A protocol is a set of rules that govern how data is transmitted between devices on the same network. Essentially, it enables connected devices to communicate with one another regardless of differences in internal processes, structure, or design. Network protocols enable easy communication with people all over the world and thus play an important role in digital communications.
Open protocols, similar to how speaking the same language simplifies communication between two people, allow devices to interact with each other through predetermined open source rules independent from any single commercial company.
While Gaia-X, Catena-X and ACT B share the vision of data-sovereignty, their focus and approach vary. Catena-X has an industry focus, it aims to solve different challenges for the automotive industry. ACT B has a protocol focus, it aims to solve a single challenge for all industries.
No, the goal is develop a protocol independent of a specific blockchain. However, the protocol may have specific requirements for blockchains, e.g. Smart Contract abilities, interface requirements, etc.
By becoming a member of the ACT B Alliance you are not only getting to co-create and shape the future of an open protocol for transparency & traceability, but you are also getting a front seat in the developments and early access to the alliance’s work.
By supporting a common reference standard, any company can create programs that are automatically compatible with other programs in the same field. This enables more competition, which is desirable for all users.
